Samaras, ” non grata” in the Greek town where First Constitution of the country was enacted.

By the most of political humiliation that the Greeks have reserved nowadays for their politicians, Samaras, the Prime Minister, was hosted in the city of Nafplio, a city- symbol for the modern Greek mind since it was there where the first  Political Constitution of Greece was enacted in 1822.

Following a typical “Greek tragical irony” scenario that one can find originally in ancient Greek dramas, tha plans of todays’ Prime Minister A.Samaras seem to had been completely opposite for this day and this place.

Antonis Samaras was invited to Nafplio by the major of the town to be officially offered the “golden key of polis” on the National Day of Nafplion city, today, November 30th, of the anniversary of Nfplion for the 192 anniversary of the liberation of the city from Ottoman rule.

“Nafplio is a relaxing retreat” for A.Samaras,  he said by his own words in his speech during the celebrations, which were designed to name Samaras an honorary citizen of the city.

“The fate wanted to become the country’s Prime Minister in the most difficult moments in recent decades, but these difficult times will not keep still long.” the Prime Minister said, but some moments later, todays’ fate had chosen to offer to the honored politician in Syntagma Square of Nafplion true harsh words and gestures picturing on his face his from the “Greek mass” non- popularity.

Celestyal_Olympia_protasi_simansis

Cyprus-based cruise line Louis Cruises has unveiled a brand ‘Celestyal Cruises’ and its website CelestyalCruises.com. Celestyal means “of the stars,” “heavenly” and “divine” – defining the Greek experience that the company provides, stated a release. The Celestyal logo combines two iconic, eternal Greek images: the spiral, taken from seashells, and the windmills of the Aegean. It evokes the sea, the sun and the wind. The logo reaffirms Louis Cruises’ commitment to its Hellenic roots, and to supporting the economy and preserving the environment of each destination that their ship visits. The spiral also symbolizes the continued growth of the company. As the company builds the Celestyal Cruises brand, it will continue, as Louis Cruises, to operate in the chartering and ship management segments.

In 2015 Celestyal Cruises will add 12 Ionian, Adriatic and Dalmatian Coast ports of call to its itineraries, including Bari (Italy), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Corfu, Igoumenitsa, Kalamata, Katakolon, Kefalonia in Greece, Kotor (Montenegro) and Saranda (Albania). The new brand ships, the Cristal and the Olympia, have been rechristened as Celestyal Cristal and the Celestyal Olympia. The Louis Aura will retain her name and will continue scheduled itineraries in France and Cyprus.

Vivek Jain, Managing Director, Griffon Tours and Travels and Representative– India, Celestyal Cruises said, “We are trying to create a very iconic Greek brand of Celestyal Cruises. The ships, the cuisine on board and the itineraries reinforce the Greek feel during the entire cruise. We are targetting FITs, honeymooners, families and corporate groups for our cruises. Our ships also provide facilities for MICE events such as meetings and conferences. We look forward to a great response in the Indian market“

Ebola Alert on Crete for the 700-immigrants carrying vessel

Οn a giant Emergency Response & Rescue Operation for the Borders Control and Protection of the Country from Communicating Diseases and the Ebola virus,

local authorities , the Greek CDC and Red Cross volunteers on Crete are racing  to handle the hundreds of immigrants on the crippled freighter carrying 700 immigrants that  being slowly towed to safety by a Greek navy frigate.

A day after it suffered engine failure in international waters, the 250-foot Baris cargo ship carrying some 700 men, women and children trying to enter Europe – one of the largest boatloads of the kind in recent years — was being towed at a speed of about three knots.

The coast guard said initial indications suggested passengers included Syrians and Afghans heading for Italy. It was unclear where the Kiribati-flagged ship had set sail from, or when.

Ierapetra local authorities and volunteer groups are preparing an indoor basketball stadium to provide temporary shelter for the migrants,  collecting food, blankets, mattresses and toiletries. The Baris lost engine power Tuesday about 30 nautical miles off the southeastern tip of Crete.

Greek officials and the Greek Center of Disease Control ( HCDCP) said Wednesday night there were no reports of severe health problems or food and water shortages on board. after the communication  of the Center with the crew on board, that has been set as one of the primary regulations of the country for the Emergency handling of such situations for the Protection of Ebola virus importing cases.     A pregnant woman was airlifted by helicopter to an island hospital.

The migrants will be medically screened for Ebola virus  under the Protocol procedures that the Greek Center of Disease Control has set as regulations, by the General Manger of the Greek Center of Disease Control being already on board by the Special trained Greek CDC medical team for Ebola Response before the migrants been ferried to land.

Just days before the freighter ran into trouble, 228 Syrian refugees heading for Italy were rescued from a crippled ship off Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean.

EU regulations stipulate that refugees seeking asylum must apply in the first EU country they arrive at.

About 80 per cent of immigrants arriving by sea at Greece’s eastern Aegean Sea islands are Syrians fleeing the country’s civil war, according to the Doctors Without Borders humanitarian organization’s Greek branch.

Tens of thousands of people risk the hazardous journey every year, paying smuggling gangs to carry them over in usually unseaworthy craft ranging from toy dinghies to aging rust-buckets. Most end up in Italy.

According to Amnesty International data, since the start of 2014 more than 2,500 people have drowned or gone missing — about 1.7 per cent of the estimated 150,000 who made it across.

Since the start of November the Ministry of Health had released new, updated guidelines to enhance the level of preparedness of the ports of the for any possible suspected incident of Ebola hemorrhagic fever

“Given that the incubation period of Ebola virus is 2-21 days, the possibility of introducing in Greece an hemorrhagic fever outbreak through the ship that sail from Ebola affected areas, is considered very likely .” “Sailing from Guinea Conracy Port, for instance”, had said , ironically ,the Ministry of Health Circular, takes a travel time of 10 days. .

Emergency Alert on Piraeus port, Attiki , Greece, for suspected Ebola case.

On the Alert have been set the Public Health Emergency Response authorities in Greece at the port of Piraeus while the Greek flagged cargo ship “Magda P” was expected this afternoon with a concerning possible Ebola case on a crew member who was reported with an onset of fever four days before, and a febrile episode, which set on the alarm for the Ebola Emergency Response in Greece.
The Bulk carrier “Magda P” was docking to Piraeus, changing course from its planned Guinea-Ukraine route when the crewmen developed a fever on Thursday 13 November.
“This case does not seem to fit the definition of a suspect Ebola Fever case,”. the Centre said by a Monday afternoon official announcement. However, Greek CDC doctors will visit the ship in order to confirm the epidemiological facts and examine the patient,”
During the morning hours the media had reported that the ship would not dock in the harbor, but would lay anchor offshore until the medical screening would be completed by the Emergency Medical team of the Greek CDC (HCDCP/KEELPNO) , especially trained for the Ebola disease.

The Circular was released on November 3, two weeks before the Magda P incident appeared .
The updated Guidelines’ Circular had focused on the strengthening of preventive measures, Preparedness and Safety, and has been posted by the Ministry of Health Secretariat to the ports of the country, while the training of health and other personnel is ongoing .

Clear instructions are given about the terms and conditions for the management of suspicious incident on board, and the procedures of “tracking” of contacts with other passengers or crew members, as well as the procedure for temporary isolation and transfer of an Ebola suspect incident.

Promachos , the first line of battle for “a city without a soul”. Is this what the film Promakhos is about ?……

moviePromakxos PROM “…No ancient stones are going to wake up this generation.

A city without a soul is just a mob.”

Holding our breaths for such a bitter phrase never to come true, the Greeks, crave some hope through the words of the movies nowadays, which obviously say things more bravely than actually the live soul of the nation could do. As is ,the “Someone has to stand up for Greece. Make the case for her”, the most powerful phrase of the Promakxos movie , which tells the Elgines’, and not only, Greece’s story to the world on behalf of a decrated soul of a nation .

A nation in crisis…

A town out of hope…

The battle for the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece has indeed begun. The new film, which is going to premiere at the end of November, is a Greek, French, and British co-production directed by Greek-American directors Coerte and John Vourhees.

It is a courtroom drama that tracks the legal battle waged by two Greek lawyers for the return of the Parthenon Marbles. The name of the film was inspired by the statue of Athena Promakhos which we all know is used to defend the Parthenon in antiquity.

But What does the ancient Greek word Promakhos mean? It is spelled Promachos and according to Wikipedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In ancient Greece and during the Byzantine era, the Promachoi (singular: Promachos; Greek: πρόμαχος) were the men fighting in the first rank of the phalanx.[1] [2] The word can also be used as an adjective as in “promachos line”[3] referring to the first line of battle. It may also refer to Athena Promachos, the famous bronze statue by Phidias that towered over the Parthenon.

The first use of the word is recorded in Homer’s Iliad[4] and since then it has been used all through antiquity, the Byzantine years up to the modern times.

The Truth About My Creative Life “Balance”

monkey tightropeI was driving home from my riding lesson with the slavering hounds of duty nipping at my back tires. Fly, fly they bayed at me, back to your desk and your deadlines. I knew that was the responsible thing to do. There were clients waiting on deliverables that were in various stages of almost done. But, despite the dogged insistence of my Type-A conscience, I took a left instead of a right and parked outside my favorite local coffee shop.

One chai, I thought, it won’t take long. The work will still be there – waiting – after I’ve taken a few minutes to clear my head and stretch my imagination. I found that the book I’d been reading was sitting on the passenger seat beside me. Some part of me must have premeditated this brief escape. Some quietly rebellious instinct was…

Ebola Greece: Greek Ministry of Labour informs for employers’ responsibilities for the protection of Health Care workers

tumblr_ndmy4lDY2Q1tj9yyzo3_500

A circular issued by the Ministry of Labour for the protection of workers in Greece from the Ebola epidemic asks the Labour Inspectorate to inform employers and employees for the emergency response procedures demanded in all working places, as to avoid the spread of the Ebola virus.

The circular informs the Inspectors for Occupational Health and Safety that in cases of inspections of their competence conducted in areas where there might have appeared possible workers’ or personnel exposure to the Ebola virus, it is their duty to inform the employers on the employers’ obligation for the measures that should be taken for the Prevention and Protection of the workers’ health, and also to inform employees for the necessary precautions taken for their protection.

The high risk groups among workers on the risk of exposure to the Ebola virus are mainly workers in hospitals, especially doctors and nurses, the ambulance crews, workers at airports and seaports.

For each worker of the high risk groups, employer should take responsibility for the workers’ information of the errors and the Public Health Guidelines for taking the necessary preventive and protective measures, such as the provision of the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and the workers’ training for their safe and appropriate use.

“Despite the fact that Greece is characterised low risk for the introduction of Ebola virus, to the moment and based on the estimates of the Greek CDC, (KEELPNO), we consider it essential to inform employers and employees about the characteristics of the disease and the Prevention measures that should be taken.
